YOU & I

Sadie Wech

Southland-based singer-songwriter Sadie Wech was inspired to write her debut single “You and I” after being asked to sing at a wedding. A self-described hopeless romantic, she wanted to surprise the couple with a song that captured emotions often hard to express in words, but naturally conveyed through music. “You and I” tells the story of two people in love, exploring how a relationship grows and evolves over time, while holding to the idea that home is found in the person you love.

The song earned Sadie the Solo Female Artist Award at the MLT NZ Gold Guitar Awards in 2024. Music has long been central to her life, influenced by a deeply musical family background that includes a grandmother classically trained in opera and coached by the same teacher as Kiri Te Kanawa.

Raised in a small rural farming community in Southland alongside four younger siblings, Sadie now lives in Arrowtown, where she also runs her own business in massage therapy and biomechanics. Alongside music, she has a strong passion for understanding the body and helping people live without limitations. From an early age, Sadie dreamed of becoming a singer-songwriter, creating music that connects, resonates, and makes people feel something.
